Shri B. Ramachandiran is a prominent visionary educationist and philanthropist, currently serving as the Hon'ble Chancellor of Sri Venkateswaraa University. Since 2004, he has been the Chairman of the Ramachandra Educational Trust and Sri Venkateshwara Group of Institutions in Pondicherry.
He established Ramachandra Educational Trust, a non-profit charitable trust in Chennai on May 26, 1999, with the goal of promoting literacy and healthcare, particularly for rural populations. Under his leadership, the trust established a 750-bed multi-speciality hospital in 2005. This expanded into a comprehensive educational hub in Ariyur, Puducherry, which includes Sri Venkateshwaraa Medical College Hospital & Research Centre since 2007, Indirani College of Nursing in the year 2009, Paramedical Sciences in 2010, Engineering in 2012, Dental Sciences in 2014 and Pharmacy in 2018. From 2022 onwards, Shri. B. Ramachandiran serves as the Chancellor of Sri Venkateswaraa University, which integrates various professional fields. The University operates across campuses including Redhills and Ettayapuram, offering diverse programs in medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, and agricultural sciences. His philosophy emphasizes that education and healthcare are the strongest growth drivers of a nation.
Shri. B. Ramachandiran was recognised with the Education Change Maker award 2024 by ICT Academy for his exemplary contribution for up skilling the younger generation with the Quality Education for more than two decades at Puducherry.
He was indeed recognized as a Times Health Care Achiever 2024 by The Times of India, under the august presence of Thiru Ma. Subramanian, the Honourable Minister for Health and Family Welfare of Tamil Nadu, honouring his extensive contributions to medical education and the expansion of healthcare services in the Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu.
In the year 2025 & 2026, he authored and published an article titled “Growth Drivers of the Nation” in leading national newspapers viz., The Times of India and The Hindu, emphasizing education, healthcare, innovation and integrated academic systems as key growth drivers of the nation.
Shri B. Ramachandiran has been honoured with the Healthcare Achievers Award 2025 for Best Hospital in Chennai by The Times of India, as a testament to Sri Venkateswaraa Medcity's unwavering commitment to excellence in healthcare, patient care, and innovation. His philanthropic initiatives, and service-oriented activities include Free Medical Assistance and Consultations, Rural Health and Free Medical Camps, Community Welfare and Support, Educational Scholarships for Disability, Public Health Programs etc.
